Corrine Bougaard
Artistic Director
Born in South Africa, Corrine's distinguished career at Ballet Rambert preceded her role as founder member, choreographer, teacher and Associate Director of Extemporary Dance Theatre. Corrine went on to found Union Dance in 1986. Awarded the first Arts Council England bursary for an Artistic Director of Dance, Corrine was also a recipient of the Winston Churchill Fellowship; the first British choreographer to research contemporary dance in Cuba. Corrine has choreographed for many Union Dance productions, including a commission for The Henley Festival of Music & the Arts. Having completed an MA in Design, Corrine taught at Central St Martins as a senior lecturer in MA Design. This year, she is teaching BA Contextural Studies for the University of East London, BA musical theatre at The Urdang Academy.

Vanessa Abreu
Associate Choreographer / Performer
Born in Madeira, Vanessa began her classical dance training with Sarah Silvin. She studied at Escola Superior de Dança, Lisboa and Laban (BA Hons Dance Theatre). In 2006 she was awarded the Simone Michelle Award for outstanding achievement in Choreography. Having completed an MA Choreography from Laban, Vanessa has been developing her work, with Andrej Gubanov, Mathew Orange, Noura Sanatian, Ejnar Askberger, Jane McLean (White Flag) and others. She has worked with Pair Dance and is currently a Flat Feet Dance company member. She has choreographed, performed and taught for Union Dance since 2008.

Gerrard Martin 
Associate Choreographer / Performer
Born in Northampton, Gerrard studied at De Montfort University, (BA Hons in English Literature and Performing Arts), and at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance. He has performed in the West End cast of the Lion King, toured nationally with dance companies, Phoenix Dance, Union Dance, Bawren Tavaziva, and danced for the NT, ENO, and ROH. Gerrard has also danced commercially for artists such as Lionel Ritchie, Eternal, and Shola Ama. Gerrard danced for Nelson Mandela on his Celebrate Africa state visit. Gerrard has choreographed extensively for Union Too and for the wellbeing programme, Fit Fresh Start. 

Coral Messam
Associate Choreographer / Performer

Working as a performing artist for over 13 years in a multi faceted fashion as a dancer and actor, Coral trained at the Northern School Of Contemporary Dance', Leeds, working with artistic director, Jonzi D in the production 'Aeroplane Man' moving on to musical theatre, in Walt Disney 'The Lion King' and working commercially as a backing dancer for Kylie Minogue. Coral recently completed an international tour with DV8 Physical Theatre on the production 'To Be Straight With You' performed at The National Theatre. Coral has worked as a workshop leader and performing artist, with Union Dance since Spring 2009.

Naomi Deira 
Dance performer / teacher 

Naomi is an experienced dance teacher, who is graduating from the Amsterdam School of the Arts. She has studied at the Alvin Ailey in New York and danced at the Fall Festival with her own choreographic work. Naomi is a qualified teacher of dance in education.

There are further artists including Warren Gordon Scott, Everton Wood that work with Union Dance on our projects, who are specialist artists in specific dance styles, also video artists, poets, designers and musicians that we draw upon to do innovative and inspiring work.

TECHNICAL TEAM

Bill Deverson - Production/Lighting Designer

Bill has worked in theatre and video since 1979. After completing her degree, she became a freelance lighting designer and production manager, touring both nationally and internationally. Throughout her career, she has worked and designed for Extemporary Dance Theatre, Welsh National Opera, the Royal Shakespeare Company, Phoenix Dance Company, Ricochet Dance Company, Chrysalis Video, Anna Theresa de Keersmaeker and Wim Vandekeybus.

David Goldsworthy - Production/Lighting Manager
David originally trained at the Laban Centre as a dancer, before moving into the technical field. For the last 20 years he has designed lighting for and toured extensively with corporate, theatre and dance companies. He currently gained a MA Distinction in Design Studies at Central St Martins.

Anthony Osborne — Company Manager
Having studied dance and drama Anthony moved into the technical field as a resident stage manager at The Playhouse, Harlow.  Since leaving The Playhouse to pursue a freelance career he has worked as Company/Stage Manager with Applause Productions, Parkshows Productions, David Graham Productions and Hiss & Boo.  Oz is always drawn back to Union Dance by his love of dance.

Alistair Bland - Technician
Alistair is a freelance technical manager, specialising in community and education work, as well as contemporary dance. Passionate about making the performing arts accessible to all, he is now training as a social worker
