Anxiety Arts Festival
Balance/Imbalance with Mental Health Foundation
May - July 2014
Anxiety 2014 is a new London-wide arts
festival, curated by the Mental Health Foundation taking place at multiple
venues throughout June 2014. Union Dance has created a programme of events that give
participants a chance to sample the project, working alongside professional
dancers.
The
production Music Movement Oracle
has links to positive mental health. It works on the therapeutic quality of
music with dance using a holistic approach and agreed ethos to marrying and
strengthening physical, mental and psychological health.
In May 2014 the two groups of participants will engage in a
short workshop programme leading into a performance that is showcased as part
of Anxiety Arts Festival, London 2014, a live 2-day 'StereoHype' June
event in Brixton in Windrush Square.
The Mental Health Foundation will collaborate with Union Dance.
The mid-long term plan is to develop appropriate working methods. Union Dance has
a corps of professional teacher/artists and is known for shaping education
programmes and creating learning DVDs.
MHF Arts
and Mental Health
department are part of the newly formed Lambeth & Southwark Culture, Health
& Wellbeing Group. Union Dance is
liaising with the South London and Maudsley Foundation NHS Trust and Mind Time to Change
initiative.
This ongoing
programme of work will include other groups in Southwark and Lambeth, including
NHS staff, older adults and their carers at Dulwich Picture Gallery and inmates
in Brixton Prison.
